The 17th Sakyadhita Conference,“Buddhist Women Beyond Boundaries: Interfaith, Interdependence, Environment,” will be held live online!
Greetings! My name is Sharon A. Suh and it is my honor to serve as president of the Sakyadhita International Association of Buddhist Women. On behalf of this esteemed organization, I wish to extend my warmest welcome to all of you to the 17th Sakyadhita conference exploring the theme of “Buddhist Women Beyond Boundaries: Interfaith, Interdependence, and Environment.” I want to thank everyone for joining together across various time zones and locations to help us pivot the conference from an in-person conference in Sarawak to our first entirely online platform. These are indeed unprecedented times as we the face impact of environmental and health threats that have been exacerbated by the effects of Covid-19 and the current pandemic. Despite the ever-unfolding nature of the pandemic, I have seen first-hand how we have all been able to cultivate resilience and engage in innovative methods to join together as a global organization to continue the good work of Sakyadhita. We are indeed stronger when we work together to transcend seemingly unsurmountable boundaries and collectively establish bold and collaborative solutions to the most pressing issues affecting Buddhist practitioners throughout the world. Sakyadhita conferences are well known for bringing together monastics and lay people, scholars and practitioners from all corners of the world and the 17th Sakyadhita conference promises to inspire us all with engaging workshops and panel presentations addressing interfaith collaboration, interdependence, and environmental justice.
I wish to extend my deepest appreciation to our incredible Executive Committee, our hard-working Planning Committee, Academic Committee, and prior officers for bringing this online conference to fruition. It takes a global village to accomplish such an enormous task and I am grateful to everyone who has tirelessly contributed their time and expertise.
