Harsha Gautam is pursuing her Ph. D in Religious Studies at The University of Texas, Austin. She completed her M.A. and M. Phil in Ancient Indian History at the Centre for Historical Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Her M. Phil dissertation locates the agency of the bhikkhunīs and students in the early Buddhist monastic tradition. She is keenly interested in studying the vinaya traditions with an emphasis on the role of the bhikkhunīs in the saṅgha. Her article, “Defeat of the Disciplined Bhikkhunīs: A Comparative Studies of the Pārājika Offences” was published in the proceedings of the 80th Indian History Congress.
