About this Speaker

Riveraine Walters is an interdisciplinary socioenvironmental specialist with several graduate degrees in social science and engineering, including a PhD in Water Resources. She is particularly interested in pluralistic ways of knowing, especially based on non-Western worldviews (i.e., Indigenous and Buddhist) that are alternative lenses for conceptualizing adaptation to complex socioenvironmental challenges. As a Buddhist Chaplaincy student, Riveraine intends to enhance her two decades of Buddhist study and contemplation with the wisdom of spiritual caretaking to provide deeper and more holistic support for the many people who are, and will be, suffering from the rapid impermanence of the Anthropocene. Global impacts are disproportionately affecting marginalized communities and their resources, resulting in loss of livelihoods, multiple and overlapping disasters, and forced migration.
